New Zealand Photo Diary 1

April 21, 2014

Recently I went on a trip to New Zealand with my mother and sister. New Zealand is one of my most favourite places in the world. I spent 7 years of my childhood there – those of you who have met me have probably wondered why I have an unusual accent. It’s actually a mix of Kiwi and Australian (with a bit of South African/Zimbabwean from my parents thrown in there for good measure).

The first part of our trip was spent in Auckland, visiting friends and relatives as well as exploring the place. One thing that hit me is that New Zealand has pretty much the same brands as we do in Australia. My sister and I went into the local department store, Smith & Caughey’s and were impressed with how many great local Kiwi designers were stocked. Whole sections for Karen Walker, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Lonely Hearts, Deadly Ponies and Ruby among others. I’m a big fan of New Zealand fashion – it’s a dream of mine to attend New Zealand fashion week one day!

Asides from shopping, we also checked out Ponsonby, witnessed a pedestrian run in front of a motorbike on K Road, went to Auckland’s lantern festival in the botanic gardens and had a delicious dinner with friends at Manuka in Devonport.

More photos later this week!

So many good restaurants along the Viaduct
My sister and I decided it was a good idea to walk to Ponsonby…

Skytower at night. They shot fireworks off it later that night (Kiwis love fireworks… a little too much)
