Like lots of people, Christmas is one of my most favourite times of year. In almost every place I’ve lived, we’ve never had any relatives in the same place – so Christmas is celebrated with immediate members of the family and friends.
This year we went to one of our favourite restaurants, Chianti Classico for Christmas Eve dinner. Since the South Australian state government is stupid and has no idea how to keep up with modern times, this year, they made Christmas Eve a public holiday. This was in an attempt to support people working in the service industry (which is all well and good), but meant that the majority of restaurants were closed and no one could do late night shopping like usual. Somehow every other major city in the world manages to stay open, so I don’t see why Adelaide shouldn’t either.
Anyhow, we were lucky in that Chianti remained open and I enjoyed delicious Blue Swimmer Crab pasta and a Semifreddo and peach dessert.
Our Christmas day was a wonderful one. My favourite parts are definitely the Christmas Carols (especially the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Boston Pops ones), the scent of a Christmas candle (this year we had a Crabtree and Evelyn one) and everyone preparing the Christmas lunch together. We aren’t a typical Christmas food bunch, so we forwent the ham, turkey and Christmas pudding (eww) and instead enjoyed chopitos (using squid instead), a slow roasted leg of lamb and a delicious chocolate cake we made from a Pierre Hermé recipie.
I also got some wardrobe newbies, including this Acne lizard skin print leather jacket that I’ve wanted for aaaaages, this Sara Phillips dress and other things from Staple, Preen, Uscari and T by Alexander Wang.
