Adelaide Fashion Festival: Mercedes-Benz Blogger Styling Challenge

October 12, 2015

October is one of the most exciting times of year in Adelaide – not only because we finally get to enjoy some warmer weather, but because it heralds the return of the Adelaide Fashion Festival!

This year is especially exciting, since its the first year the AFF will be run by the SA State Government. This means even more and even bigger events, more designers and more fashion!

Running from Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th October, some highlights include:

There are heaps more events, so make sure to check out the event program and grab your tickets (which are selling out fast)!

Last week, I took part in one of the most exciting and fun events for bloggers – the Mercedes-Benz Adelaide Style Challenge. The rules were simple: style at least three looks, each with pieces from at least two AFF designers, and with a Mercedes-Benz car.

I came up with three outfits – each with a fun theme!

Outfit 1 – ‘Digi-girl Superhero’ (couture look)

This was one of my favourite shoots. I was very impressed with the Mercedes-Benz C350 and its high-tech LCD panels along its dash. You can switch from a huge GPS system, a TV and speedometer – not to mention the super cool red mood lighting.

I thought this would be the perfect car for a tech superhero – think Bond side-kick or Veronica Mars. Her own little high tech, functional, yet stylish haven.

It was therefore a no-brainer to pair an amazing red Couture+Love+Madness dress with the car’s red mood lighting. To toughen up the look, I also added an incredible Paige Rowe biker vest, along with my own Charlotte Olympia metallic lace-up boots. Finally, added my red Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for that last bit of techy impact- the perfect side-kick for a digi-girl. Sleek, elegant and powerful, just like the C350.

Outfit 2 – Garage Goddess (ready-to-wear look)

I absolutely love pastel shades, particularly blue – so I was immediately attracted to this incredible, goddess-like TY-LR dress. TY-LR is a brand new Adelaide label designed by Chris Kontos. Every piece is so versatile and is perfect for that stylish, yet hard working professional. I could wear this dress directly from the office to an evening event!

The dress is not only a perfect colour, it’s tailoring and construction is also exquisite. For a very simple and polished look, I also added a sleek metal belt from Couture+Love+Madness, and my own Chanel pearl heeled shoes.

Not the sort of outfit you’d expect in Mercedes-Benz’s repair garage – but then again, I’m sure a goddess would have have the ability to service her own car if she wanted to!

Outfit 3 – ‘Car-dashian’ (ready-to-wear look)

I couldn’t resist styling a fun outfit I wouldn’t normally wear – pretending to wear the shoes of someone else. In this case, that turned out to be as one of the Kardashian sisters!

Long flowing hair – check.

Long, skin-tight skirt – check.

Gold, lots of gold – check.

A super cool luxury car – check.

Simmone Standing is one of Adelaide’s most talented young designers, having recently shown in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York. Her keen eye for detail and focus on individuality has translated into this beautiful skirt. I’m sure a real Kardashian would be keen to get her hands on it!

I paired a gorgeous muted gold blouse from bridal designer Calèche, with the skirt. Love how the top and skirt looks like they were made for each other! Calèche have some gorgeous pieces – this top was made from the thickest and softest satin-silk, making for an unbelievably luxe finish.

To complete my Kardashian look, I added in Couture+Love+Madness‘ gold metal belt (a piece so versatile, that I used it in several outfits).

I can totally imagine one of the Kardashian sisters driving this little Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It’s small, yet stylish and fast!
